I wanted to let you all know about a unique and fabulous show that I'm going to be doing at Joe's Pub on February 23rd at 9:30 called "Echoes of Etta." It's an Etta James Tribute, headlined by the incredible William Blake, the singer, not the poet. If you didn't catch one of the two sold-out performances at Birdland last year, William is truly a phenomenal talent, and for all the purists out there, he does Etta's material in her original keys, no cheatin' transpositions. Of course we'll have the same beautiful back-up girls from both of the Birdland shows (and our invited guest appearance at the Cabaret Convention at Rose Hall) his Peaches, including Ashley Betton (currently Off-Broadway in Forever Dusty), Shira Elias, and Stephany Mora. If you know them, you know that they are all incredible singers in their own right, but together, they are the fiercest of trios. I'm proud of my arrangements and my band for this one, with Lavondo Thomas on bass, Steve Kelly on drums, Oscar Bautista (American Idiot, Forever Dusty) on guitar, and my friend Jay Leslie from the Tokens on sax. I'm sure the show will sell out, so get your tickets soon. The performance is a little over an hour long; we will be attempting to fit 17 of your favorite Etta James tunes into that hour! I hope to see some of you there!
